|TSSC hosts its very first industry seminar:“TelecomSkills: Quality Assurance & Certification”|
On 19th July 2013, the Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC), in cooperation with its founding members, hosted a seminar on TelecomSkills: Quality Assurance and Certification. This seminar aimed at intimating the current state of skill development in the telecom industry, key initiatives in quality assurance and certification, benefits of partnering with TSSC and process of collaboration. The event was attended by top Government officials from DoT and DeitY, CEOs and HR professionals from key telecom industries (including Samsung, Indus Towers, BBNL), members from telecom associations (COAI, ICA, ACTO), training providers, and NSDC.
The event was opened by Cmde (Retired) J Jena, CEO TSSC, who welcomed the audience and proceeded to summarize TSSC’s key objectives and goals. His talk focused on emphasizing the need for skill development and how TSSC is creating a skills eco-system by prioritizing initiatives that can have a catalytic effect in developing a competency based framework. The speakers who followed definitely were united in highlighting how skill development is crucial to all sub-sectors and how skilled manpower is a key necessity for the future success of telecom.
The seminar was successful in bringing together the Government, academia, and the industry along with training providers onto the same forum to discuss the means to standardization and quality assurance of telecom professionals. Considering TSSC’s goal of skilling/up-skilling 5 Million people and setting up of 500 training centres in the next 10 years, this kind of industry engagement would enable future success of this national skill building initiative driven by the Prime Minister’s Office.
The Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC) is an industry led body jointly set up by The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), Indian Cellular Association (ICA) & Telecom Centres of Excellence (TCOE) to ensure adequate availability of skilled manpower to boost growth and productivity in the Telecom Sector. Set up under the aegis of the National Skill Development Corporation, TSSC has the following objectives:
•Develop National Occupational Standards and obtain industry ratification.
•Align curriculum to Occupational Standards.
•Facilitate Train The Trainer (TTT) program and certification of trainers.
•Independent 3rd party assessment of candidates and certification using a unique tamper proof Pitney Bowes system.
